Postcards: Oahu

Postcards: Oahu

Aloha! I’ve returned a little browner, a little blonder and even more fascinated by the Ocean life I’ve encountered. With my trusty GoPro I’ve captured a sea turtle and a whole lot of colourful fish. It’s not groundbreaking, I know, but as an enthusiast of ocean waves and the life it keeps within its briny belly, the sense of discovery is exciting for me.

My 3rd visit to the Hawaiian island of Oahu brought me more picturesque beach scenery, warm weather, delicious shrimp (yet again) and a bit of a cold. The hot sun felt indulgent as I thought about my fellow cold Canadians back home who were reporting -25˚C with the wind chill and about eleven inches of snow. After hearing this I appreciated the turquoise waters and my towel covered bed of sand even more. Each angel or puffer fish I greeted while snorkelling was a wrapped Christmas gift from the universe. Just floating upon the ocean’s surface offered a zen like state. And the Cannonballs into the pool were bursting releases of stress and worry. It was all unicorns and sunshine for a few days…

Snap back to reality. I am sick and have to persevere through the Christmas rush as I left all my shopping until the last final days. I also find myself guiltily dodging curious onlookers noticing my olive skin tan who question where I’ve been with a raised eye brow.
To which I reply in offering, “Chocolate covered macadamia nuts anyone?”

Tis the season of giving but I’ve learned the fine cold line of snow and ice between bragging and offering some fun travel anecdotes. I’ve learned chocolate and wine melt all envious hearts (which is why I don’t put travel photos on my personal Facebook anymore).

So now that I am in the company of those who don’t hate but appreciate all the juicy details, I’ll do a bit of bragging in the form of snapshots from my island journey, including stills of my snorkelling adventure as seen above.

Haha, these are cute. I lived in Oahu for years and snorkeling was always my hands down favorite so I don’t mind reading about your excitement! 🙂
