La Rosita Wine Cocktail by Okanagan’s Own Bar Travelling Man, Harry Dosanj

We at Foodietown.ca are so excited to have Harry Dosanj as a contributor! I mean a wine cocktail recipe is so unique. We sipped this while writing! In the Okanagan, Harry has long been apart of the growing food scene. His family owned the popular Poppadoms Indian restaurant before dissolving into various channels headed by the wildly talented Dosanj siblings. Harry is one them. His cocktails, cocktail kits and converted Bucephalus Bar are much beloved in the Okanagan. Wine cocktail, La Rosita made with merlot, campari, tequila and muscat is the creation of Harry Dosanj of Bar Travelling Man.

This particular recipe was created while at an event at West Kelowna’s Grizzli Winery. Harry used Grizzli Merlot in this cocktail recipe to show that wine can be a versatile cocktail ingredient and not just a drink to enhance your dinner. This wine cocktail would be a great showstopper at any holiday party with the festive flavours of orange paired with campari and Merlot, but it could also be a cocktail for a red wine lover in the spring, fall or late nights around a fire.

This wine-based cocktail has depth and is a bit of showstopper especially during the holidays with the added orange twist.

Ingredients

  • .5 ounce Campari

  • 1.5 ounce tequila

  • .5 ounce Merlot wine

  • .5 ounce Muscat

  • 1 dash bitters

  • 1 cup ice

  • 1 orange

Directions

  • In a mixing glass or pitcher such as Harry’s Yari mixing glass in the video, add Campari, tequila, Merlot, Muscat and bitters.
  • Add cup of ice to the mixture and stir using a weighted bar spoon. Stir until ingredients are cold. Strain into a glass of your choice.
  • Using a potato peeler, run the peeler against an orange to create a twist of orange peel. Twist over top of the glass to extract the essence of orange. Twist the peel a 2-3 times creating a ribbon look then place into cocktail glass.
