Summertime in Whistler

Summertime in Whistler

Not everyone thinks of going to the ski hill at the peak of summer but that’s when I prefer to visit the slopes since I am not a fan of descending icy cliffs at top speed on any type of wooden board beneath my feet. I’ve tried snowboarding and just couldn’t get myself to have fun as I repeatedly fell on my butt and this was just on the tow rope and t-bars ~ My tail bone and legs have never been so sore!

But I am a fan of mountain views, steamy hot tubs, hot alcoholic beverages and the way snow falls upon a lit wintery village.

Cut to the middle of summer in Whistler, one of the worlds most renown ski resorts and mountain bike parks, where the snow is scarce and has receded to the peaks, mountain bikers weave their way through pine trees next to black bears wide awake who comb the lush mountain faces for berry bushes. This summer Whistler has been reaching scorching temperatures of 35˚Celsius {95˚Fahrenheit}, perfect pig roasting weather and ironically even for snow enthusiasts who flock to the highest peaks to ski down glacier slopes upon the remaining snow in their bikinis and shorts. Why not get a tan as you slice your way down a glacier?

For nature and adventure enthusiasts there is plenty to do in Whistler when the sun shines and you have both the wilderness surrounding you and the comforts of a miniature city with all the shopping, restaurants, food tours and seasonal events in the village square. Care for a bungee jump,  zipline, water rafting, mountain biking, canoe/hiking excursion or get up and close with a few bears upon a motorized raft (to name but a few)?
Even if you’re not a fan of getting a little dirty out in the wild there are plenty of spas, poolside bars and even a driving range and course for golfers.

Relaxation and food was the theme of my first trip to Whistler this year which was made possible by the luxurious Westin Whistler Resort & Spa, the backdrop of our birthday surprise for my mom. In the coming posts I’ll be posting my experiences of this playground for all ages. Stay tuned!

What activity would you choose to do in Whistler during summertime?

I’ve never thought about whistler in the summertime. I’d love to see some beautiful mountain views. And maybe even try the zipline.

Lake Tahoe is not far from where I live, and it is also world renown as a ski area, i.e. a winter getaway. I don’t like to ski either and went in the summertime. It was gorgeous. I am hoping to get up to BC next year, if not later this year, and will check into the Westin. Must have been a spectacular property and area.

      Hi Jenna,

Let me know if you come up to BC – I know a lot of great little spots for either road trips or focused in the lower mainland or the Okanagan.
I just booked a trip to San Francsico and will be using your posts for inspiration! Especially for the Sausalito area.

      Thanks for stopping by!
