Literally 2 Hours in York, England + Video

Literally 2 Hours in York, England + Video

Literally 2 hours in York - During our Honeymoon we decided to stop for a bite to eat in York on our way from London to Edinburgh. We were pleasantly surprised!

I knew I wanted to see one more English city before leaving the country by train. We escaped London gleefully upon our Virgin Train, 1st class no less, and arrived in York 2 hours later. The town was recommended to me by a Twitter follower who preferred the city over my second option of Bath. Considering that Bath, England was quadruple the price for a train the choice was made even easier. York it would be and York it was!

York Food & Drink Festival

Founded in 71 AD, York was purely and enigmatically wonderful. Just a short 10 minute walk from the train station the Old Town is picturesque with Medieval buildings and cobblestone streets. We lucked out that day and arrived during the York Food and Drink Festival. Cheese, wine, overflowing pints of ale, sweets and ethnic foods aplenty there was not one vendor, food truck or stall without a line of hungry foodies.

But I was there not only to explore but also do a Snapchat Takeover for NomadApp.co. Nomad App is automated travel hacking to get you traveling at the best price. You can see the full Snapchat Takeover below – it was a very windy day that day so I apologize for the loud gusts that might push through your speakers.

I dearly wish that I had more time to explore in York. It demands at least a day or two to fully explore its gorgeous architecture and unique restaurant offerings. My husband and I did what we could in the 2 hours before our next train would take us to Edinburgh.

York in 2 hours + video

We buzzed through the festival ending with a glass of Champagne and a container of crackling pork for £2. If you find yourself in York you’ll also want to check out the York Minister and it is hard to miss. One of the largest churches we came across in all of the UK it looms high over the town overshadowing the Old Town and the Shambles Market.

York is for any archeological enthusiast or history nerd who has a penchant for Vikings, Romans, 17th century sieges, Kings and Princes. But for the two hours we had the city provided enough to preoccupy our eyes. Have your camera ready at every turn!

    York food and drink festival
We had the choice between the morrocan chicken and the smokey beef chilli.
We chose the morrocan chicken and it was so delicious! Great portion size accompanied by wonderful service from the smiley happy and polite staff.
I must go again soon and try the rest of the menu!!

    Thank you!
