For The Love of Macarons & A Great Cause

For The Love of Macarons & A Great Cause

I have been a long time fan of Sandrine and her French pastry and chocolates. Her macarons are legendary here in the Okanagan and as they should be. Trained in France, her croissants, fanciful pastries and unique blend of chocolates are enough to temporarily quench my wanderlust. I love her macarons so much I had them on my dessert table at my travel themed wedding.

If you ever get a chance be sure to take her macarons classes or learn how to make your own French classics or chocolates in her cooking classes offered throughout the year. But for the love of macarons let’s celebrate Macaron Day which is also the first day of spring. Grab some macarons, pop a bottle of bubbly and put on your favourite French film. Happy Macaron Day!

Details:

Sandrine French Pastry & Chocolate will be celebrating Macaron Day in Kelowna on Monday, March 20.   Everyone is invited to share the love of macarons and support the Kelowna General Hospital Foundation.

“Jour du Macaron” or Macaron Day was started by a Parisian pastry chef Pierre Hermé in 1995. Over the years it has gained international recognition as a way to fundraise for local charities while enjoying the macaron.

The concept is simple:  macaron-lovers get to enjoy the French treat at three locations in Kelowna, and 25% of all macaron sales that day will go towards the Kelowna General Hospital Foundation.

What’s a macaron?  This delicious treat is made of two round meringue-based cookie shells, held together by a soft filling such as ganache, lemon curd or buttercream.  Very fine almond powder, egg whites and sugar are combined to create an initial crisp and airy bite, leading into the macaron’s filling – featuring whatever humble or exotic flavor that has inspired pastry chef Sandrine.

Creating these delicate little cookies is an art that takes great skill.  Sandrine will be offering a wide selection (while quantities last) including the more traditional macaron flavours such as chocolate ganache, pistachio, and raspberry but don’t be afraid to try the Cassis, Rosé, Passionfruit or Olive Oil.

You can purchase your macarons on Monday, March 20 at:

Kelowna General Hospital – Hospital Lobby
9:00 am – 3:00 pm

Sandrine French Pastry & Chocolate
1865 Dilworth Drive
8:30 am – 6:00 pm

Urban Fare
3155 Lakeshore Road
8:00 am – 9:00 pm

I looooove these macaroons! We had them for my friend’s baby shower and we gobbled them up so fast! I’ve wanted to take her classes for a while now, but haven’t done it yet. One day!

Oh yes do! I did a post with a video featuring her macarons class. It was a lot of fun. I’m thinking a chocolate class around Christmas this year round.

These macarons wouldn’t stand a chance with me around! I’d devour them in no time flat.

Yay for supporting charities with such a beautiful pastry. They are little works of art. I just wished I actually liked to eat them!
