All-Inclusive Resorts: Cancun

All-Inclusive Resorts: Cancun

Okay, I have been prolonging this post since December. Mexico….sigh.
Cancun, or rather, beach resorts feel so far removed from the country that they are based in. Did I even go to Mexico?

If you read my post on all-inclusive cruises, and the tragic type of travel they offer, then you probably saw that I suggested an all-inclusive resort instead. Resorts, of course, have their downfalls too but they’re a lot more fun than being stuck on a boat.

A word to the wise, I would suggest Mexico en lieu of my beloved Hawaii in these two situations (only):
(1.) if you are wanting to save money or
(2.) if you have never been to Hawaii so you don’t constantly compare the two experiences. Hawaii, according to me, is the better of the holidays, hands down! But more pricey.

Somethings I enjoyed are…
I appreciate that Mexico’s all-inclsuive resorts include alcohol! Unlike the all-inclusive cruise option, the food and alcohol is included and if you get a good resort like we did, there will be bottles of alcohol available in your room as well (vodka, rum, tequila, whisky, beer, red wine).
The views from our balcony were spectacular and we were only on the 4th floor.
Resorts are relaxing. It is actually nice to get away and not do anything but laze in the hot sun thinking about all the freezing suckers back in Canada.
The food is free, although, choose your resort wisely as there may not always be delicious free food, just mediocre free food. In my case I was rendered sick a couple of times and not from hangovers…that was only once.

Although there was some great entertainment and dancing at night I felt handcuffed to the resort. If I wanted the key and tour the rest of Mexico and its ruins I would have to follow other tourists. I was with my parents and sister and they are ones to wait in long lines and be away from the beach for twelve or more hours, their schedule being limited and dictated by overpriced tour companies, nor am I. But when you’re that close to Chichen Itza it kills me not to go. We didn’t go. We didn’t eat authentic Mexican food but resort food. The best thing I ate was a steak at Harry’s steakhouse (not in my resort). Did I even go to Mexico? I can’t say I did. The resort experience is like a movie set that blocks you from seeing the real thing. The beach resort experience in Cancun caters to North American appetites for sun and beaches. And really, who doesn’t love that?
The resorts were superficial fun that left me feeling like I missed out in the end. Left me feeling like I didn’t see enough or anything at all besides beach and sun. Although, I have to say, I had a great family trip with my family during Christmas! And at Christmas, isn’t that all we really want?

Exotic and amazing, that’s the best tourist spot Mexico.

I have to disagree, although I thank you for your comment.
Cancun beach, most of the time was windy so the sand would be kicking up into your eyes. The beach itself was relatively empty while the poolside and pool was always packed.
From my experience I'd have to say Lanikai beach in Oahu was perfect for snorkeling, sun and swimming. Although, I don't doubt you on the Rio, Ibiza and Acapulco beaches!

    Thanks for your comment!

Cancun for me is one of the sexiest beaches in the world, next to Rio, Ibiza and Acapulco. It's because the first Mexican sunrise shines throughout the city alongside sun-kissed skins and hot dishes.
